It’s no secret that television has changed over the past decade, there are now many more ways
to watch TV programmes whether that be online or via devices that can connect to your TV.
As technology continues to develop, how we measure television viewing also needs to adapt and evolve. That is why we have created the Focal Meter, a simple box that connects directly to your broadband router and collects viewing information for the devices on your network.
Specifically we are looking at the following TV content you watch online:
Broadcaster Video on Demand Services: BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My5,
Sky Go, UKTV Play, STV, S4C Clic, BT Sport, Discovery+, Virgin Media.
Other 3rd party Video on Demand Services: YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, Twitch TV, Now TV, Apple TV+, Britbox, Rakuten TV, Vevo, Yupp TV, Pluto TV, Disney+, Hayu, Acorn TV, DAZN, Dailymotion, w4free, POP Player, Samsung TV+, Chili, TikTok
In fact, if you are watching on a tablet (like iPad) those players listed above are the only ones
whose data we can see. Our software is designed to only register when it detects these services.
We absolutely cannot read instant messages, emails or any other personal communications.
There is a filter on the Focal Meter which means only viewing of these services
ever leaves your household. We cannot see anything else that you or your household
members do on any other website or app.
If you only have your television monitored, you will be new to Focal Meter. Please click the button above to watch a short video.
